Tatiana Erukhimva, wh teaches physics at Texas A&M University, has managed t get her students, as well as future generatins, excited abut the science. Knwn as “Dr. Tatiana” t her students and nline fan base, the prfessr perfrms physics tricks with bundless energy and enthusiasm. In the kid-friendly vides, Erukhimva uses a range f everyday bjects in her experiments, frm pingpng balls t tilet paper. Her department’s YuTube page has abut 2.5 millin fllwers. She gt famus n YuTube.
It’s clear she knws what it takes t get yung peple excited abut a hard science. But it wasn’t always that way. When she first started teaching cllege freshman classes almst tw decades ag, she struggled t grab the attentin f her yunger students. She was used t teaching junirs, as she had fr a few years prir t that. By junir year, students enrlled in physics are cmmitted t learn, she says. With them, she culd walk thrugh the syllabus (教学大纲) n day ne, and still cmmand the rm. But when it cmes t teaching a large lecture hall f 100-plus first-year students, first impressins are make-r-break.
By the secnd semester, she fund her fting (立足点), adjusting her apprach t get her students engaged. “Talk t yur students befre and after class, walk up and dwn the stairs when yu teach yur class rather than stay n the stage. And dn’t just lecture, talk t them — make it interactive,” she says. And, f curse, add shwy demnstratins t help students t cnnect these abstract cncepts with real life.
She’s earned mre than just recgnitin n scial media. In Octber, she was hnred with a natinal award fr science utreach “fr leadership in bringing the excitement f physics thrugh innvative educatin prgrams.”

Scientists have figured ut hw t btain large amunts f il frm duckweed (浮萍), ne f nature’s fastest-grwing water plants. Changing such plant il int bifuels fr transprtatin and heating culd be a big part
f a mre sustainable future. Fr a new study, led by Shanklin, a bichemist, in the Plant Bitechnlgy Jurnal, researchers genetically (基因地) engineered duckweed plants t prduce seven times mre il per acre than sybeans—currently the mst cmmnly used bifuel-prducing plant.
Unlike fssil fuels, bifuels can be regained faster than they are used. Fuels made frm new and used vegetable ils, animal fat can have a lwer carbn ftprint than fssil fuels d, depending n hw they are surced, but there has been a recent ppsitin against them. This is partly because s many crps nw g int energy prductin rather than fd. Besides, bifuels take up mre than 100 millin acres f the wrld’s agricultural land.
Duckweed, cmmn n every cntinent but Antarctica, is amng the wrld’s mst prductive plants per acre, and the researchers suggest it culd be a game-changing renewable energy surce mainly because f the fact that it grws readily in water, s it wuldn’t cmpete with fd crps fr agricultural land. Mrever, Shanklin and his team fund a way t sidestep a majr bitechnlgical bstacle.
Accrding t Rebecca Rstn, a bichemist at the University f Nebraska, wh was nt invlved in the study, engineered green plants typically expend a lt f energy n il prductin and thus stp grwing. Fr the new study, Shanklin says, the researchers added an il-prducing gene that wuld be inactive at first, and then “turn it n like a light switch” by intrducing a particular mlecule (分子) nly when the plant had finished grwing.
This prcess “went extremely well,” Rstn says. “If it wrks in ther species, this can slve ne f ur biggest issues, which is hw we can make mre il in mre plants withut negatively affecting grwth.”
28.What can be learned abut duckweed plants frm the text?
A.They are engineered t make bifuels.
B.They prvide vital nutrients fr humans.
C.They pse threat t agricultural lands.
D.They absrb less carbn than sybeans.
29.What des the underlined wrd “sidestep” in paragraph 3 mean?

B.Rstn participated in Shanklin’s research.
C.Bifuel prductin will cease plant grwth.
D.The gene activatin methd is prmising.
31.Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
A.Duckweed: An ideal green energy surce
B.An energy revlutin is unavidable
C.A perfect replacement fr bifuels is fund

Sn after ChatGPT was intrduced t public in 2022, researchers tested what the artificial intelligence (AI)
chatbt wuld write after it was asked questins with false narratives. The results were trubling. Researchers predict that generative technlgy like ChatGPT culd make disinfrmatin cheaper and easier t prduce fr an even larger number f spreaders f disinfrmatin. Persnalized, real-time chatbts culd share false infrmatin in increasingly credible and persuasive ways, researchers say, smthing ut human errrs like pr grammar and mistranslatins and advancing beynd easily discverable cpy-paste jbs. And they say that n available strategies can effectively fight it.
Earlier versins f ChatGPT, which was created by the cmpany OpenAI, have been used fr years t fill nline frums and scial media platfrms with cmments and unwanted emails. Micrsft had t stp activity frm its Tay chatbt within 24 hurs f intrducing it n Twitter in 2016 after trlls (恶意发帖人) taught it t use racist language. ChatGPT is far mre pwerful, advanced and cmplex. Supplied with questins laded with disinfrmatin, it can prduce cnvincing, clean variatins n the cntent within secnds, withut disclsing its surces. Recently, Micrsft and OpenAI intrduced a new Bing search engine and web brwser that can use chatbt technlgy t plan vacatins, translate texts r cnduct research.
OpenAI researchers have lng been nervus abut chatbts falling int hands f criminals. They viced their cncern abut their chatbt’s capabilities t lwer csts f disinfrmatin campaigns and aid in the pursuit f mnetary gains, particular plitical agendas, and/ r desires t create chas r cnfusin. OpenAI uses machines and humans t mnitr cntent that is fed int and prduced by ChatGPT. The cmpany relies n bth its human AI trainers and feedback frm users t identify and filter ut harmful training data while teaching ChatGPT t prduce better-infrmed respnses. OpenAI’s plicies prhibit use f its technlgy t prmte dishnesty, mislead users r attempt t influence plitics. The cmpany ffers a free mderatin tl t handle cntent that prmtes hate, self-harm and vilence.
32.What d we knw abut the Tay chatbt?
A.It was slw in learning new cntent.
B.It was intrduced t cmpete with ChatGPT.
C.It was taken dwn shrtly after it was released.
D.It was OpenAI’s mst advanced chatbt.
33.Hw des ChatGPT increase the risk f disinfrmatin?
A.It reduces the effectiveness f disinfrmatin.
B.It lwers the cst f disinfrmatin campaigns.
C.It spreads infrmatin mre quickly than befre.
D.It makes disinfrmatin cheaper and cnvincing.
34.What des OpenAI d t prevent the misuse f ChatGPT?
A.Encurage users t give feedback.
B.Mnitr cntent and fllw strict rules.
C.Share data with ther cmpanies.
D.Review infrmatin frm new users.
35.What culd be the best title f this passage?
A.Researchers Seek Slutins t Cmbat AI Chatbts
