One day, while his mther was ut hunting, the gray cub (幼兽) fund the way ut f the cave (洞穴). At first, he was afraid. But the need t knw and understand was greater than his fear, s he went ut. He sn learnt that the flr f the wrld was nt flat like the flr f the cave. And he fell, screaming in fear.
But he sn sat up, and started walking and lking arund him. He met a squirrel, and a wdpecker, bth f which mved away frm him. S he learned that the wrld had things that stayed in ne place, and ther things that mved.
He had beginner’s luck when he fell int a ptarmigan’s nest. In the nest were seven chicks. He realized this was meat, like his mther gave him. S he ate them all. As he walked away frm the nest, the mther ptarmigan (雷鸟) attacked him. He fught back, biting her wing with his small teeth. He was excited and happy. He was fighting fr meat, fighting t kill. It was what wlves did. He learnt anther imprtant lessn.
Then he left the ptarmigan free and rested. As he watched her, smething rushed dwn frm abve him, picked up the ptarmigan and flew back up int the sky. It was an eagle.
He was learning. Live things were meat, but if they were big enugh, live things culd als hurt. It was better t eat small live things.
Later smething small jumped in frnt f him, s he put his paw n it. It was a yung weasel (鼬鼠). It made strange nises, and sn the mther weasel appeared. She jumped at his neck and bit him with sharp teeth. She wasn’t big, but he didn’t knw hw dangerus weasels were.
Suddenly she jumped, and bit int his thrat. He tried t fight, but the weasel held n. The cub was sure t die, but luckily his mther, the she-wlf, heard his frightened calls and came t save him.
