Technology keeps students from focusing, right? One solution is ban phones and computers from the classroom. Another solution is to engage students with online tools that will help them complete assignments while still using electronic equipment. Here are some online tools to hold their attention.
Prezi
Presentations are an important part of the curriculum but let’s face it. PowerPoint isn’t terribly engaging. Prezi allows students to create presentations that are more creative and exciting than what PPT has to offer. Not only will this make the presentation-creating process more interesting for students, it will also make watching presentations more interesting as well.
Trello
Because so many students are in the habit of multitasking, a good skill to teach them is how to organize and simplify their assignments. Trello is a free and super easy-to-use tool for students to create workflow charts. Multiple students can be added to the same board; great for teamwork on projects.
Cold Turkey
Cold Turkey is a useful tool to reduce the number of tasks that students can do at the same time on their computers. They probably won’t love this one because it limits their access to certain websites so that students can focus on their tasks. Even having students turn it on for half of a period for some focuses on in-class writing time will make a difference in terms of their productivity.
White Noise
Whatever you want the students to engage in — activities, contents, assignments, etc. — they need to be able to focus, and classrooms aren’t always the easiest places to do that. White noise can not only drown out excess(过量) noise, but also help students keep more concentrated, for there is less noise when they’re concentrating.
21.What are these technology tools mainly used for?
A. Helping students stay focused on their lessons.
B. Banning electronic equipment from the classroom.
C. Improving the students’ creativity in class.
D. Discouraging too much use of online tools.
22.Which tool is suitable for teamwork?
A. White Nose. B. Cold Turkey. C. Trello. D. Prezi.
23.Why might students dislike Cold Turkey?
A. Because it is not practical for them at all.
B. Because it makes some websites inaccessible.
C. Because it greatly reduces their productivity.
D. Because it prevents them surfing the Internet.
B
Have you ever thought that your life will be perfect if something in your outside world changes? You may say, “I will live happily if I find my soul mate.” You may say, “If the perfect job comes along, I will get satisfaction. My problem is that my boss is stupid.” Or you may say, “If I have a child, I will know what it is like to be loved.” The problem is that it is not the outside world that prevents you from experiencing peace, love and joy. Instead, it is your own internal (内部的) patterns that get in your way.
To prove this point, at my weekend programs, I had my students look at a flower on my table. Then I asked them to share their experiences. Some showed a state of complete joy because staring at the flower reminded them of their wedding or a great trip with their lovers. Others said the flower made them angry because it reminded them of a gift given by a former partner who turned against them. Some students even told me that the flower reminded them of their beloved grandmothers’ gardens with some shedding tears (流泪)of joy and others shedding tears of sadness. However, the flower was still just a flower.
Our internal patterns decide whether each moment is filled with peace, anger, joy, love or sadness. When you don’t realize that it is your own internal state that is creating your experience, you are likely to blame (责备)the external situations in your life. Most people aren’t taught that emotion is a choice. And they aren’t taught how to change those lower emotional patterns such as anger, anxiety, sadness and so on. Next time, when you meet something bad, please look at your internal state. When you accept that you are responsible for your own state, and find the courage to turn inward, you can step out of being a slave to what shows up in your external world.
24.Why does the author mention the examples in Paragraph 1 ?
A. To lead to the topic of this passage.
B. To complain about imperfect life.
C. To show common problems in life.
D. To encourage people to change the outside world.
25.How does the author prove his opinion?
A. By giving examples. B. By doing an experiment.
C. By telling a related story. D. By comparing other people’s opinions.
26.What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph?
A. To step out of negative emotions.
B. To pay attention to our internal world.
C. To share our real emotions with others.
D. To use different methods to change bad emotions.
27.What does the author want to express through the passage?
A. Our external world matters a lot.
B. Our emotions can affect our health.
C. Our internal patterns truly decide our emotions.
D. Our experiences have a great influence on our emotions.

The discussion on renewable energy has been going on for at least a decade and people have relied on fossil fuels almost entirely for more than a century. However, the situation when fossil fuels were the most efficient and the cheapest source of energy has been left far in the past. Many countries such as Germany and Sweden have already made significant efforts to fix this situation, employing numerous power plants working on the renewable resources of energy. The most effective among these resources is geothermal (地热的) energy.
Geothermal energy does not depend on the world’s economic and political situation as strongly as fossil fuels do. Besides, extracting (提炼) fossil fuels adds to the price of energy produced from them. Therefore, geothermal energy is much cheaper than traditional ones, saving up to 80% of the costs over fossil fuels.
Being a renewable resource, geothermal energy produces less waste and pollution than traditional energy sources. In geothermal systems, carbon dioxide makes up about 10% of air produced. Overall, in order to produce the electricity that can be used for one hour, the geothermal systems produce 0.1 pound of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. For a comparison, a power plant producing from gas produces up to 2 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and those power plants that work on coal (煤) produce an astonishing 3.6 pounds of greenhouse gases.
Low costs is another reason why using geothermal power plants should be the first choice for many countries. Geothermal heat systems require 25% to 50% less energy for work compared with the traditional systems for heating or cooling. Besides, geothermal equipment is less big: due to the very nature of geothermal energy, geothermal power plants have only a few moving parts, all of which can be easily sheltered inside a relatively small building. What’s more, the life span of geothermal equipment is rather long. All these make geothermal power stations easy to build and keep.
28.Fossil fuels are more expensive than geothermal energy partly because _______.
A. it is free to use geothermal energy
B. fossil fuels are nearly used up
C. the production of fossil fuels costs a lot
D. geothermal energy doesn’t depend on political situation
29.According to Paragraph 3, what can be concluded from the comparison?
A. Coal is much more efficient than gas.
B. Gas and coal are often used to produce electricity.
C. Geothermal energy is environmentally friendly.
D. The geothermal systems don’t produce harmful gases.
30.Geothermal equipment is usually not as big as that of traditional energy because of ________.
A. the nature of geothermal energy B. geothermal power plants
C. life span of geothermal equipment D. the small buildings
31.What is the main idea of this passage?
A. Many countries have benefited from geothermal energy.
B. Geothermal energy is well accepted.
C. Geothermal energy has many advantages.
D. Fossil fuels are being run out of.
D
Google's new camera, called Clips, is a small, smart device. It comes with a case that has a clip (夹子),but it’s not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own.
This roughly 2-inch by 2-inch camera, with a three-hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone.
On board the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms (计算程序) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. “Once it learns that there's a face you see frequently, it’ll try to get nice photos of those faces,” said Juston Payne, the device’s product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved “training it to know what happiness looks like”. The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot — like when a child’s hand is over the lens, or if it is tossed in a dark purse.
The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing.
Were people concerned it could seem strange? Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet.
“This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced” Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we’re likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets.
32.What is the most outstanding feature of Clips?
A. It allows of hands-free photography. B. It enables easy internet access.
C. It is equipped with tough glass. D. It can be worn on your clothing.
33.What does the underlined word “candid”, in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. touching. B. brief C. unforgettable. D. embarrassing.
34.What makes Clips a reality according to Juston Payne?
A. The advance in technology. B. The popularity of the Internet.
C. The rise of the smartphone industry. D. The reduction in the price of lens.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A. Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life. B. New Gadgets in the Age of Apps.
C. A New Digital Camera from Google. D. An Alternative Way to Photograph.
