I have a degree in business. However, it was my father’s decision for me to follow a business major (专业). He thought that having a business degree would make me more competitive and provide me with more available options in entering a global marketplace. I took his advice. However, even though my college experiences were fantastic,I still had no interest in any field of commerce, let alone having a long-term career(职业)as a businesswoman.
After I graduated,I worked as a marketing planner at a computer company. My pay and working environment were great; however,I still didn’t feel happy doing something that I wasn’t interested in. After two months of working there, I made up my mind to quit and decided to do what I love, namely teaching English. I have now been an English teacher for over twenty years. I love my job and love being with my students.
If you are in a place where you don’t love what you are learning or doing, please ask yourself what you are really enthusiastic about, and what you truly want for your life. Don’t rush to get yourself a quick answer. Take some time to think about what career could make you happy. The important thing is that you are happy and then you are able to bring happiness to people around you. Therefore, you will be a success. There is a quote(引语)that says,“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. ”If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.

A. Teachers. B. Parents.
C. Job hunters. D. Top students.

The day after Thanksgiving is famous—perhaps infamous is a better word—for the crazy search of steals and deals on the hottest holiday gifts. But in recent years,I’ve heard more and more voices calling for that day to be an extension of Thanksgiving itself,a day to continue the conversation about gratitude(感激)that was started over turkey and sweet potatoes.
One way to hold onto the positive, loving spirit of Thanksgiving is to promise to do small acts of kindness after the dishes have been washed and the leftovers put away.
The great thing about acts of kindness is that they are completely portable to whatever situation you find yourself in. Even if you’re waiting in a long line at a megastore, you can offer a smile to the customers facing a long wait alongside you. You can offer your spot in line to someone who looks frail or tired. You can even project kindness to others by staying calm and cheerful even if the store is out of the things you were looking for.
The website Good and Kind has a list of 100 Small Acts of Kindness, which include sticking a positive post-it-note (“You can do it!”)on a public mirror, buying an item(物品) from the vending machine and leaving it for someone to find and enjoy, and letting someone pull out of their parking space in front of you.
There are many ways to be kind and make the world a happier place. The website Action for Happiness has ideas for how to focus on your strengths, contribute to your community(社 区)and commit to finding three things to celebrate each day.
Personally, none of these actions requires much time effort or money. But collectively, they can make a big influence not only on those in your community, but also on your own well-being(幸福).
28.What is expected of the day after Thanksgiving?
A.People’s sincere wishes.
B. People’s extended thanks.
C.People’s sale of holiday gifts.
D. People’s love of traditional food.
29.What does the underlined word “frail” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Strange. B.Frightened. C.Weak. D.Ashamed.
30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Tips on finding websites. B. Need to help others.
C. Celebration of each day. D. Ways to be kind.
31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To call on people to spread kindness.
B. To introduce the website Good and Kind.
C. To tell people how to improve their happiness.
D. To promote the influential power of the community.

At a recovery meeting for loved ones we focused on fear. Fears can overpower. Often we project worst case situations. A lot of “what ifs” take over. We worry. Our hearts sink when the phone rings in the middle of the night. Is our loved one in a car accident or a hospital emergency room?
But what if the worst thing did happen, how do we deal with the fear that it will happen again? One way to break the cycle is to stay present. The past is over and the future doesn’t exist. Hearing my own story so often in my recovery group has helped me face my fears. Members have shared ways to stay out of their heads and present in their lives. These include: meditation(冥想),gardening, cooking, painting and volunteering. I thought that some of these suggestions would work for me.
Recently I participated in a drawing class where I became focused on drawing a simple ceramic bowl. Totally present for two hours: just me,a set of pencils, drawing paper and that bowl. Swimming laps is another method I’ve found helpful. Stroke(划水),breathe, kick. back and forth from one end of the pool to the other.
The slogan(口号)“One Day at a Time” also reminds me to stay present. It helps pull my attention away from the future and leave yesterday’s baggage behind. Similarly “Just for today” lightens my load of fear and worry. Another slogan,“Easy does it” reminds me to be gentle with myself when I return to worse case situations.
Neel Burton,M. D. writes that basic feelings such as fear and anger are hardwired. We can either control fear or it will control us. To quote Mark Twain again,“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not the absence of fear. ”
32. How can people handle the fear about the worst thing happening again?
A. Accept others’ advice. B. Live in the moment.
C.Imagine the future. D. Hear more stories.
33. In which paragraph does the author show how she fights fear?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2.
C. Paragraph 3. D. Paragraph 5.
34. What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Mastering fear. B. Being good to ourselves.
C. Following famous people. D. Running away from fear.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Power of Fear B. The Assumption About Fear
C. Responding to Fear D. Taking Control of Fear

Remember Information Effectively
Focus on the new information. You’ll be more likely to remember something in the future if you give it all of your attention while you’re trying to learn it. Don’t try to have many tasks. 36 . If you have kids, see if someone else can watch them for a while so you can
have an uninterrupted study session.
Take a break after learning something new. 37 . Avoid not being able to concentrate or trying to get other things done during this time,as it will prevent the process of building the new memories you’ve just formed.
38 . Studies suggest that your brain uses sleeping hours to review and select what you will be able to recall(回忆) in the long term. For this reason, you can improve your long-term memory recall by going over information that you want to keep right before you go to sleep.
Organize information into related groups. Information is stored in your memory in large amounts,so group similar contents together and memorize these smaller groups separately. Mix up all the information from your different sections once in a while, and study the material out of order. 39 .
Space out your study sessions. Your ability to remember things can improve if you have many small study sessions over a longer period of time. 40 ,you will remember it better,so when first memorizing something repeat it often, and over time you can review it with less frequency. Even if you only have a little time to study,it helps to space out your material as much as possible within one study session.
A. Each time you review something
B. Review information right before bed
C. If you continue to organize your study session
D. Just sit quietly or think deeply for a few minutes
E. Many researches have suggested it might be of little help
F. Try asking your roommate or family to give you some quiet time

33. In which paragraph does the author show how she fights fear?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2.
C. Paragraph 3. D. Paragraph 5.
34. What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Mastering fear. B. Being good to ourselves.
C. Following famous people. D. Running away from fear.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Power of Fear B. The Assumption About Fear
C. Responding to Fear D. Taking Control of Fear
