I sat down to read beneath an old maple tree in the park, disillusioned with life, for the world was getting me down. And if that wasn't enough to ruin my day,a young boy approached me,out of breath from running. He stood right before me with his head lowered down and said with great excitement,“See what I found!”
In his hand was a flower. What a pitiful sight! Its petals (花瓣) were all worn.Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play,I faked a small smile and then turned away. But instead of leaving,he sat by my side, placed the flower to his nose and said with surprise,“It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it; here,it's for you.”
The flower before me was dying or dead. But I knew I must take it,or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower and replied,“Just what I need.”But instead of him placing the flower in my hand,he held it in midair without reason. It was then that I noticed for the very first time that the boy was blind.
I heard my voice tremble as I thanked him for picking the very best one.“You're welcome,” he smiled, and then ran off to play.I sat there and wondered how he managed to see a selfpitying woman beneath an old maple tree perhaps from his heart,he'd been blessed with true sight.
Through the eyes of a blind child,at last I could see the problem was not with the world;the problem was me.And I determined to see beauty and appreciate every second that's mine.I held that flower up to my nose and smiled as that boy was about to change the life of an old man with another flower in his hand.

The Pause Pod has been made fun of on social media as a really expensive children's tent for adults, but its inventors think it is actually a portable(便携式的)“private space free from stressful moments”.
The Pause Pod is designed to provide its user an escape from the pressure of modern life, anytime, anywhere.Whether you're wanting to take a short sleep, read your favorite book or watch a film,at the office,at home or even on the street, all you have to do is take out your portable Pause Pod,step inside and take a break from the outside world.
When you want to use the Pause Pod,all you have to do is take it out of its bag, unfold it and get in.The whole process takes only a few seconds. It is made out of a highquality material that can block about 99% of outside light when zipped up,allowing you to enjoy a good night's sleep in the middle of the day.Other special features include a collapsible (可收缩的) pocket that allows you to lie down and extend your legs as much as necessary,a pillow,a reading lamp, and a pocket for valuable things.
Because of its obvious similarity to a children's tent, the Pause Pod has been made fun of on social media, but a lot of people apparently love the idea of a portable escape from the outside world,as shown by its successful crowdfunding (众筹) campaign. The Pause Pod simply smashed its $10,000 goal, raising $100,000 in 30 days,as well as an extra $40,000 in preorders. In spite of the widespread disapproval, its inventors consider the pod a success.

Twenty years ago,I arrived in central Florida from Puerto Rico.I had heard of a job opportunity and decided to pursue it.But it never became a reality.I quickly learned that being alone without resources in an unfamiliar city was not a comfortable situation to be in.
Once my limited funds ran out I became homeless and spent a year and a half living on the streets of Orlando.Apart from feeling not being noticed and missing my family,I had to face another challenge—hunger.
For the first time in my life,I,as a foreign man,who had lived my life in the relative comfort of the middle class, understood the desperation someone feels when they don't get enough to eat.I clearly remembered having run a distance of more than 7 miles on many occasions just to make it to a local feeding program before they closed at 7 p.m.
Once the need for food was met,the next challenge would arise—where to find a place to sleep for the night.Fortunately, local programs like the Coalition for the Homeless,Second Harvest Food Bank and the Wayne Denseh Center were an important part of my ability to survive my painful experience.
With the assistance of these programs,I was accepted by a college scholarship program through the Coalition and obtained two degrees from Valencia.
My experience has helped me understand that devoting my life to helping others offers lasting rewards.Today,I am employed as Childhood Hunger Programs Manager at Second Harvest Food Bank and oversee the summer feeding,HiFive Kids Pack, and Kids Cafe programs.I am also proud to be able to distribute (分配) food resources to those wonderful programs and help hundreds of people like me.

根据第一段的第二、三句“I had heard of a job opportunity and decided to pursue it.But it never became a reality”可以推断出,那时作者找到工作是很困难的,故选A。
13.Why did the author run a distance of over 7 miles on many occasions?
A.Because he didn't want to be late for work there.
B.Because he desired to get some free food to eat.
C.Because he went there to give his hand to the poor.
D.Because he helped distribute food resources to the poor.

My list of favorite books long.I read a lot and I just keep finding new favorites. In my family,we often talk about the books are reading and pass around our favorites. It benefits whole family.I discovered how favorite books can help strengthen a friendship long ago. I was a kid,my friend Liz became very and was going to miss a lot of classes.I a big bag with some of my favorite books for her read. She never forgot that.Today, she lives thousands of away from me,but she sometimes emails me about the books she is reading.
此处特指我的家庭,故应把a改为the或my。
分析句子结构可知,此处存在“for sb.to do”结构。
1.主题:关爱留守儿童;
1.词数100左右;
