Fr almst as lng as there has been TV, there have been cks n it. Celebrity (名人) chefs with ne ft in the kitchen and ne n the studi flr became the main phenmenn f British media. And fr several decades, the great ambitin f many yung cks was t break int TV. Hwever, we're witnessing a change in the special relatinship between chefs and celebrities.
Cmpetitive chef cntests created a fine dining industry utside Lndn, demanding a huse style and then advertising n TV every week. But nw, chefs are having t questin hw far this can be lasting. The real spenders dn't seem all that interested in nchice, blindtasting menus any mre. S they are having t reassess what draws the lcals in.
The prblem is that TV, the medium that created chefs as celebrities, is nt bringing new talent t the screen. “While there prbably was an versupply at ne pint, that market has thinned massively, leaving the big hitters,” Melanie Jappy, a TV prducer says. “The real reasn these guys survive is that they cnnect n varius levels with a very brad range f peple. Cnnectivity is what we always lk fr in great presenters wh can make us feel that they are just talking t us and n ne else.”
If yu even switch t the Brilliant Yung Chef, thers will laugh at yu. It's almst as if the new generatin seems interested in ldfashined cncepts—utstanding fd, hspitality (殷勤) and maybe, a gd restaurant business that can survive thrugh whatever the ecnmy is abut t thrw all ver us.
I feel cnfident in predicting that the wrlds f restaurant cking and TV celebrity are separating frm each ther. There will always be cks n TV and there will always be brilliant chefs wrking quietly, but the days f the ldfashined celebrity chef are numbered.

Many peple are trubled by the use f plastic. But whenever I bring up the pssibility f using smething else, manufacturers (制造商) argue that we shuld nt be against this “great material”. They argue that it has been included in sme human rgans, cars, vests, etc. And it has enabled space travel.
Hwever, plastic is a bad material t pick fr everyday use. Since plastic was cmmercialized in the 1950s, 8.3 billin tns have been created. Accrding t a study, just 9% has been recycled, 12% has been burned and 79% has accumulated in landfills r the wider envirnment, seriusly damaging the planet.
S this prblem is wrth ur attentin. But perhaps we shuld cncentrate mre n ur lack f technlgical ambitin. Is plastic really the best thing we can create?—Once perhaps. The creatrs f plastic did thusands f dangerus experiments and made great prgress in chemistry. Peple were nce unable t change materials like wd and minerals in an extreme degree. Later chemists invented plastic; they were able t change the mlecular chain (分子链) f this material, giving the material different qualities, like being able t flexibly bend.
This must have been highly thught f during that time. But nw, is this where ur ambitin will end?
Fr sme peple, the answer is psitive. And their selfsatisfactin is matched by their devtin t terrible design. Fr example, there's a kind f cffee cup which is made frm different plastics and has a patent design. But it's filled with great pssibilities f causing injury t its users. Then, let's lk at the ccnuts (椰子) recently sld in Britain. Nt nly are they uniquely packaged by plastics, but they are fitted with a plastic ring pul. This week, I'll campaign against this ridiculus unnecessary verpackaging.
In the UK, much plastic is cnsumed, but just a little is recycled. The injustice is nt nly t the planet. 90% f the cst f dealing with plastic is brne by cnsumers. Overengineered cups and ccnuts are nt what we need. We shuld make human ingenuity (独创性) wrk fr the meaningful things. We must d it quickly.
