The preventin f COVID-19 will be a nrmal practice fr a relatively lng time, and peple shuld cntinue t take precautins during the Spring Festival hliday when they take part in scial gatherings, a public health expert said in Shanghai n Mnday.
Zhang Wenhng, leader f the Shanghai team f experts n the clinical treatment f COVID-19 patients, said in a televisin prgram n Mnday that althugh China has been vaccinating swathes f the ppulatin against COVID-19, it is still difficult t predict hw the pandemic will play ut in the future.
Accrding t the Natinal Health Cmmissin, mre than 31.2 millin dses f COVID-19 vaccines had been administered t peple acrss the cuntry as f Feb 3.
"COVID-19 will stay fr a relatively lng perid f time, which pses a great challenge fr the public health system. Every cmmunity in the city will need t have the capacity t identify and treat COVID-19 patients," Zhang said.
Althugh the spread f the virus has been largely cntrlled in China since May, spradic lcal transmissin had been reprted in several cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, ahead f Lunar New Year.
The recent utbreaks began in January, with mre than 2,000 lcal cases reprted. Thrugh swift tracking and quarantine measures, n new cases were reprted acrss the cuntry n Sunday and Mnday.
The gvernment has advised peple nt t travel during Spring Festival, which is nrmally the time f year when peple return t their hmetwns fr family reunins.
The Ministry f Transprt said that 1.15 billin trips will be made during the hliday, 20 percent less than last year.
