The advice to"let go"of negative (消极的) feelings is repeated in yoga classes and self-help books. Now a new study suggests it really brings lasting health advantages. Those who had a hard time getting over daily troubles had more physical health problems ten years later.
If you are likely to think over daily troubles--running through every "what if" and "if only"-- it makes you feel that's a big deal. Maddux said, “You probably find you feel even worse after a night of thinking. If that cycle is repeated over time, it will wear you down."
The study results are based on 1,155 people who took m in a national health study. Each day. the people described their feeling changes over the past 24 hours.. During the 10-year mark, only 17 percent of the people were free of physical health conditions, and only 20 percent are satisfied with their physical strength(力量). But those who always say they have negative feelings because of daily troubles are more likely to have the physical problems, the finding showed.
people can be likely to have bad feelings for a longer time for many reasons. For some people, worries or anger could drive it. Many others naturally have a more nervous feeling or are likely to think over and over again. But even if you are born to be negative, that can be changed.
"Yes, it's hard to 'let go'," Leger said. But people can develop that skill through practice, in which you train the mind to pay attention to the present, rather than worries about the past.
"paying attention to the present, especially on things you are grateful for, has been shown to have several advantages,"Leger said.
23. What does the study result show us?'
A. 1, 155 people say they have physical health problems.
B. During 24 hours, people seldom change their feelings
C. Only 17% of the people have no physical health problems.
D. Only 20% don’t feel quite good about their physical strength.
24. The underlined expression "that skill" in Paragraph 5 refers to _______.
A. asking "what if” B. letting it go
C. caring about the past D.thinking over and over
25. The purpose of the passage is to _______.
A. introduce different kinds of negative feelings.
B. help people know about the national health study
C. teach readers the ways to let the negative feelings go
D. ask people not to think over too much about the daily troubles
26. Which part of the magazine is the passage most probably from ?
A. Technology Part B. Advertisement Part.
C. Health Study Part D. Chemical Research Part.
D
Nine-year-old Justin Henry met a force so powerful that it lifted him into midair. It made the shoes of his feet. Justin's mom had to catch his foot to stop the "monster" from taking him. Justin had just come face-to-face with a tornado(龙卷风),one of nature's strongest storms. They can reach speeds of more than 25 mph.
During a tornado, the whole neighborhood can be destroyed. Tornadoes destroy houses, pull trees from the ground, and throw cars and trucks several hundred yards through the air. People are hurt and even killed.
The deadly weather can catch many Americans off guard. Tornadoes in the United States happen mostly in spring and summer, and often touch down in "tornado alley,” an area between central Texas and Nebraska.
Generally, tornadoes develop one at a time, but sometimes there can be a large number of them. Here are the steps how tornadoes form.
Tornadoes are born of strong thunderstorms. When warm, wet air pushes through cool, dry air,the cool air pushes the warm air up. High clouds form.
Dry air then blows in from another direction. The wind starts to spiral(螺旋).
As the wind grows stronger, air rushes in from all sides at high speeds. It forms a funnel(漏斗).
As the tornado gets stronger, the funnel stretches and becomes longer. Finally,it touches the ground.
As one of native's strongest storms, tornadoes are really powerful. How can we live through the deadly weather? Quick thinking helps many people go through deadly weather. A tornado in Van Wert, Ohio, blew the top off a movie theater just minutes after a showing. No one was hurt because the theater manager had been warned of the tornado by a tornado warning system. As a result, he told the moviegoers to hide in the stronger parts of the building.
27. How does the writer lead in the topic of tornadoes in the passage?
A. By showing Justin's experience.
B. By describing how tornadoes form.
C. By telling a story in a movie theater.
D. By explaining why tornadoes happen.
28. The second paragraph mainly talks about ______.
A. the causes of tornadoes B. the influence of tornadoes
C. people's opinions towards tornadoes D. people's activities after tornadoes
29. According to the passage, what is the correct order in which the tornadoes are formed?
① Air rushes at high speeds and forms a funnel.
② Dry air blows in and the wind starts to spiral.
③ After the funnel becomes longer, it touches the ground.
④ The warm, wet air and. cool, dry air push against each other.
- ④③②① B. ②④①③ C. ②③④① D. ④②①③
30. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The highest speed of tornadoes is 25 mph.
B. Generally , there can be a lot of tornadoes at a time.
C. Tornadoes are developed from strong thunderstorms.
D. Most of the tornadoes in America happen in spring and fall.
第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
下面文章中有五处(第31-35题)需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。
Do you like travelling? Do you want to be smart travelers? There are some tips for buying tickets that travelers need to know.
31.
Booking both air and hotel at the same time may cost a lot less than booking separately. "If the hotel doesn't have to show their price and the airlines don't have to show their price, both are willing to give lower prices.” Tim, the former manager of expedia.com, told the New York Times.
32.
If you're buying lots of tickets, search for them individually(单独地) and as a group. Airline ticket prices are full of changes, and sometimes individual seats are cheaper than a group. If you decide to buy individually, make sure there's no per-ticket processing cost.
33.
“There's a misunderstanding that every online travel agency(旅行社) has the same price of the tickets," says George Hobica of airfarewatchdog.com. "But because they sometimes cut special deals with the airlines, it's worth it to check them all." A site such as kayak.com will list a lot of agencies in one search.
34.
AARP(American Association of Retired Persons) members get up to 10% off at many hotels and up to 25% off some car rentals. AAA(American Automobile Association) offers similar deals. One of them is Costco. It offers its members deals on cars and hotels. If you have a group member card, you will save money.
35.
If there's not much difference in price between an airline's price and an online travel agency's price, book with the airline. If you want to put it off or don't want it anymore, you could be better off if you deal with the airline directly rather than with a third-party agent, explains Akash Gupta of thepointsguy.com.
A. Do Book Through the Airline
B. Don't Forget the Group Tickets
C. Do Review Your Group Member Card
D. Never Miss Air+Hotel Group Tickets
E. Don't Always Book the Group Together
F. Do Check Several Online Travel Agencies
