When I came on to the 6 one morning, the night staff said he had deteriorated (恶化) overnight and had 7 left to leave. A trained nurse and I gave him a bed bath, shaved him and changed his sheets. For the next six hours I 8 his hand and talked to him. The doctor came in regularly and asked if he needed more pain relief but he seemed 9 most of the time. He only occasionally opened his eyes to smile at me. Early in the afternoon the nurse came back in and we washed his face and 10 his hair. As she was just about to leave the room, she stroked his hair and said, “Oh John, just 11 . ” Minutes later, he did.
It has been 20 years since John’s death. I have seen 12 deaths in my time nursing. I have seen staff go far beyond the 13 of their jobs to ensure that a patient has as good a death as possible. I remember some of the other faces, but none is quite as vivid as John’s. He, and the professionals who were 14 him, taught me that it 15 how we treat those who are dying.
1. A. life B. career C. mind D. family【解析】选 B。 2. A. impact B. differenceC. reflection D. affection【解析】选A。根据短语have an impact on sb.
【易错警示】difference虽然可以表示影响, 但是短语搭配是make a difference to/in。3. A. insisting B. challengingC. struggling D. recovering【解析】选C。
4. A. comforting B. decreasingC. disappearing D. relieving【解析】选D。 5. A. face B. eyes C. smile D. expression【解析】选C。
6. A. ward B. classroom C. hospital D. department【解析】选A。 7. A. days B. hours C. minutes D. seconds【解析】选B。
8. A. held B. reached C. hugged D. touched【解析】选A。 9. A. silent B. painful C. peaceful D. anxious【解析】选C。 10. A. combed B. tied C. washed D. smelt【解析】选A。
11. A. come on B. pass away C. let go D. go away【解析】选C。 12. A. priceless B. constantC. considerate D. countless【解析】选D。
13. A. qualifications B. abilityC. expectation D. exception【解析】选 C。 14. A. caring for B. looking for C. bringing up D. cheering up【解析】选A。
15. A. trains B. works C. influences D. matters【解析】选D。
故选_________。 3. 故选_____________。 4. 根据下文“The doctor came in regularly and asked if he needed more pain relief. 故选__________。 7. 故答案为_______。
