Mst f ur dreams take place during REM sleep but we can als have dreams thrughut ther stages f the sleep cycle. "We nw understand that yu can dream in ther stages f sleep as well, hwever, nn-REM dreams are the nes that are bring, and usually nt t interesting," says Gehrman.
D dreams serve a purpse besides making us wnder what the universe culd pssibly be signaling? Scientists believe that they d but there's still a lt f research t be dne befre we get clse t a definite answer.
"One thing that we d knw is that the emtinal cntent reflects ur waking emtins-if we're experiencing a stressr r anxiety that actually fllws us int sleep," says Gehrman. That explains why yu might find yurself dreaming abut being back in schl and missing a test if yu've been really anxius abut yur jb.

A 19th century claim has fueled a 21st century debate abut hw a warming climate might reshape animals. Beginning in the early 1800s, bilgists identified multiple "rules" describing the eclgical and evlutinary impacts f temperature.
Glger's rule, named after German bilgist Cnstantin Glger, declared that animals in warmer regins usually have darker appearances, whereas thse in cler regins are lighter. Amng mammals, darker skin and hair was thught t prtect against damaging ultravilet light. Amng birds, the specific melanin pigments(黑色素)in darker feathers seem t resist bacterial infestatin.
Kaspar Dethey, an rnithlgist wh lives in Australia and wrks remtely fr the Max Planck Institute fr Ornithlgy in Germany, has led a campaign ver the past few years t blw up Glger's rule and replace it with smething mre accurate.“It has been surrunded by cnfusin since frever," he says, partly because the 1833 bk where Glger laid ut his data "cntained s much infrmatin, making it difficult t understand and was awfully written".
Earlier this mnth, Delhey and three clleagues published an essay in Current Bilgy. Their main cmplaint is that Glger's rule put tgether temperature and humidity(湿度). Humidity leads t rich plant life, which ffers shadws t hide frm natural enemies. Animals therefre tend t be darker in wet places.
Delhey argues that if yu cntrl humidity, Glger's rule gets flipped n its head-warming leads t lighter animals. That's especially true fr cld-blded critters, he says. Insects and reptiles rely n utside heat surces, and in cld places, their dark appearances help absrb sunlight. In warmer regins, that limit is relaxed, and they end up lighter. Delhey calls this the "thermal melanism hypthesis".
Hwever, scientists may sn have mre data n this tpic than they can handle, as the planet's temperatures push higher. And if glbal warming gets truly serius, even the mst time-tested ecgegraphic rules may prve meaningless as habitats and species disappear.
32. Which f the statements agree with Glger's rule?
A. Warming leads t lighter animals. B. Warmer climate makes animals darker.
C. Animals have bigger ears in ht climates. D. Animals have larger bdies in cler regins.
33. Where des Kaspar Delhey disagree?
A. Glger's rule is less reliable. B. Glger's bk is hard t understand.
C. Humidity is mixed with temperature. D. Animals tend t be darker in wet places.
34. What des the underlined phrase "flipped n its head" mean in Paragraph 5?
A. Tricky. B. Oppsite. C. Accurate. D. Meaningless.
35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. The Skin Change f Animals B. The Harm f Glbal Warming
C. A Debate Based n Glger's Rule D. An Essay Published by Kaspar Delhey
