In my everyday life, I am n an nging jurney t figure ut different ways t reduce my carbn ftprint n the planet. A carbn ftprint is the measure f influence ur activities have n the envirnment, in particular climate change. It is calculated by the amunt f greenhuse gas we prduce in ur daily lives. Frtunately, nwadays it is much easier t make ec-friendly lifestyle chices than, let's say, 20 years ag. But ne questin has been n my mind a lt lately: is it better t buy new ec-friendly prducts r used traditinally prduced gds?
After ding sme research, I have decided that sme things are better new and thers are better used. Let me try t explain.
A carbn ftprint is made up f tw parts, the primary ftprint and the secndary ftprint. The primary ftprint is a measure f ur direct emissins (排放) f carbn dixide (CO2)frm the burning f fuels, including husehld energy cnsumptin and transprtatin. The secndary ftprint is a measure f the indirect CO2 emissins frm the whle lifecycle f prducts we use - thse related t their prductin and breakdwn.
Based n this understanding, we have a gd deal f cntrl and respnsibility ver ur carbn ftprint. Things like dishes, clthes and furniture fall int the "secndary ftprint" grup, s less is mre and we can fcus n finding used gds t avid the added prductin. Hwever, fr the car and the ther appliances (设备) that we need we can g with new, energy-saving mdels. I heard smewhere that electrnics and appliances give ff 90% f their carbn ftprint after they leave the factry. S it seems mst reasnable t g fr the energy-saving mdels. The main cncern here is the amunt f energy that ges int the making f new prducts and whether r nt that extra carbn is wrth the ftprint the prduct will make nce it gets t yu.
What is the text mainly abut?
A. What appliances t buy t save energy.
B. What a carbn ftprint means in ur life.
C. Hw t identify different carbn ftprints.
D. Hw t make ec-friendly lifestyle chices.
What d we knw abut the secndary carbn ftprint?
A. It is related t ur cnsumptin f fuels.
B. It is made when we are buying the prducts.
C. It is less harmful than the primary carbn ftprint.
D. It is cunted as urs thugh nt directly made by us.
Which f the fllwing helps reduce ur carbn ftprint accrding t the authr?
A. Using secnd-hand textbks.B. Using ld and expensive cars.
C. Buying new but cheap clthes.D. Buying new wden furniture.
"The ftprint" underlined in the last sentence refers t the CO2 prduced in ______ .
A. using the prductB. recycling the prduct
C. making the prductD. transprting the prduct
C
Mst squirrels dn't hibernate(冬眠). Instead, they stre fd fr the cld seasn and spend the winter in their nests. Even when researchers wke up the trpid squirrels, they wuldn't drink a drp until the team artificially increased the cncentratin f their bld serum.
Next, the researchers wanted t knw hw the squirrels' bld cncentratin drpped s lw. Perhaps the squirrels drank a lt f water befre hibernatin t dilute(稀释) their bld, the researchers thught. But when they filmed squirrels preparing fr their winter snze, they fund the animals actually drank less water than they nrmally did.
Instead, chemical tests revealed the squirrels regulate their bld cncentratin by getting rid f electrlytes(电解质)like sdium and ther chemicals like glucse and urea and string them elsewhere in the bdy (pssibly in the bladder), the researchers reprted last mnth in Current Bilgy. The finding culd als explain hw ther hibernating animals stay cntaining water.
This new knwledge might ne day help humans with cnditins such as diabetes(糖尿病), r astrnauts wh have launched n lng space flights. Unfrtunately, even if peple can figure ut hw t drp their bld cncentratin, it's unlikely they'll ever be as cute as sleeping squirrels.
What d we knw abut the 13-lined grund squirrels? ______
A. They dn't hibernate like many ther squirrels.
B. They are endangered species in the U. S. Midwest.
C. They can live fr mnths withut water during hibernatin.
D. Their heart rule and bdy temperature are extremely abnrmal.
The hibernating squirrels dn' feel thirsty because f their ______ .
A. high bld cncentratinB. lw bld cncentratin
C. lw bdy temperatureD. high heart rate
Hibernating squirrels adjust their bld cncentratins by ______ .
A. Drinking much water befre hibernatin
B. Nt eating anything during hibernatin
C. Drinking less water than they nrmally d
D. Remving certain chemicals and string them smewhere
What is the authr's attitude twards the new findings? ______

Frtunately, nwadays it is much easier t make ec-friendly lifestyle chices(幸运的是,现在更容易选择环保的生活方式)"以及困扰作者的一个问题"is it better t buy new ec-friendly prducts r used traditinally prduced nes?(新型环保产品,使用过的传统生产的产品,选择哪一种更好?) "再根据第二段一整段的内容,作者通过研究得出答案,有些时候是新型环保产品好,有时候是另一种更好。文章接下来的段落就是分析了作者这个答案是怎样找到的。由此可知,文章主要是关于怎样选择更环保的生活方式的。故选D项.
(2)D.推理判断题。根据第三段中The secndary ftprint is a measure f the indirect CO2 emissins frm the whle lifecycle f prducts we use-thse related t their prductin and breakdwn.(第二种足迹是表示我们使用的产品在整个生命周期中间接排放的二氧化碳,这些是和他们的生产和排放有关的) "可知,第二种碳足迹虽然不是我们直接产生的,但是也是我们使用的产品释放出来的,也是要归结到我们身上的。故选D项.
(3)A. Things like dishes, clthes and furniture fall int the "secndary ftprint" grup, s less is mre and we can fcus n finding used gds t avid the added prductin." 故选A项.
(4)A. The main cncern here is the amunt f energy that ges int the making f new prducts and whether r nt that extra carbn is wrth the ftprint the prduct will make nce it gets t yu. (主要的问题是这些投入在制造新产品时的能源以及这种额外的碳是否值得它到你手里以后,所产生的碳足迹) "可知,ftprint在其后定语从句the prduct will make nce it gets t yu充当make的宾语,意思是"这种碳足迹就是产品到你手里之后,你使用中所产生的"。由此推知,划线词组the ftprint指的是"产品使用过程中产生的二氧化碳"。故选A项.

由倒数第二段 chemical tests revealed the squirrels regulate their bld cncentratin by getting rid felectrlytes(电解质)like sdium and ther chemicals like glucse and urea and string them elsewhere in the bdy可知,化学测试表明松鼠调节血液浓度是通过将电解质转移至身体其他部位储存的方式进行的,即移走某种特定的物质即电解质,并储存到其他地方.故选D.
