    "Things are wrse than ever," thught pr Alice. She turned away frm the dr, and fell int salt water, right up t her neck. At first she thught it was the sea, but then she saw it was the pl f her wn tears.
    "Oh, why did I cry s much? "said Alice. She swam arund and lked fr a way ut, but the pl was very big. Just then she saw an animal in the water near her. It lked like a large animal t Alice, but it was nly a muse.
    "Shall I speak t it?" thught Alice. "Everything is very strange here, s perhaps a muse can speak."
    Then she began, "Oh, Muse, d yu knw the way ut f this pl? I am very tired f swimming. "
    But the muse lked at her with its little eyes and said nthing.
    "Perhaps it desn't understand English," thught Alice. "Perhaps it's a French muse." S she began again, and said in French, "Where is my cat?”(This was the first sentence in her French bk.)
